Water Quality & NPDES Permitting

Need a Permit Renewal?

Wastewater Permitting

Latitudes performs National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) wastewater permitting following CWA requirements for various sewage treatment facilities; such as publicly owned treatment works (POTW), privately owned works (for communities or subdivisions), and industrial facilities throughout the United States.

  • These permits are required by facilities which discharge domestic or industrial wastewater to the environment. Domestic plants are located in cities and towns and discharge sanitary or sewage wastewater, while industrial companies may have water discharges associated with certain production or manufacturing processes.

  • These are federal operating permits which are managed by the state environmental agencies. For instance, in Texas, the TCEQ is the administrator of these permits.

  • NPDES Permits must be renewed every 5 years.

The application packages include forms, diagrams, maps, water quality data, and other attachments. Most of our projects are amendments or renewals (for existing facilities), although we also prepare applications for new facilities.

Project Tasks Include:

  1. Reviewing past regulatory filings, current plant operations, and analytical data from the discharge outfalls

  2. Preparing the technical application package, including worksheets, plot plans, maps, and process flow diagrams

  3. Finalizing and submitting the complete application package to the lead state agency

Some applications are done online, while many of them are paper submittals. We can also facilitate the public notices, as required by some states.

  • NPDES – EPA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System; a permit program which addresses water pollution by regulating point sources that discharge pollutants to waters of the United States

  • CWA - Clean Water Act; primary federal law in the U.S. governing water pollution; administered by the EPA, in coordination with state governments; objective to restore and maintain the integrity of the nation’s waters by preventing pollution, providing wastewater treatment assistance, and maintaining the integrity of wetlands
