Environmental Compliance Audits, Internal and External

Environmental Compliance Audits are critical evaluations of an organization’s adherence to environmental laws, regulations, and internal policies. Conducted either internally or externally, these audits assess whether a company’s practices meet the legal requirements and identify areas for improvement to prevent non-compliance. Internal audits are typically performed by the organization itself to proactively ensure compliance, while external audits are conducted by third-party experts for an unbiased review. Both audit types are essential for identifying potential risks, improving operational practices, and avoiding regulatory penalties, while demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Environmental Management System (EMS) Audits

Environmental Management System (EMS) Audits evaluate the effectiveness of an organization’s EMS in achieving its environmental goals, managing risks, and ensuring continuous improvement. These audits review all aspects of the EMS, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and corrective actions, to ensure compliance with EMS standards. EMS audits are instrumental for organizations seeking certification, maintaining regulatory compliance, and enhancing their overall environmental performance by identifying areas where the system can be optimized for greater efficiency and sustainability.

Pre-Acquisition Audit

A Pre-Acquisition Audit is a detailed environmental assessment conducted before the acquisition of a property or business. It provides critical insight into potential environmental liabilities, including contamination, non-compliance issues, and cleanup responsibilities that could affect the transaction. This audit helps buyers and investors make informed decisions, ensuring that any environmental risks are identified, quantified, and managed before the deal is finalized. A Pre-Acquisition Audit is essential for protecting stakeholders from unforeseen liabilities and ensuring that the acquisition process is thorough and compliant with environmental regulations.

HSE Internal Audit Support

HSE Internal Audit Support assists organizations in conducting internal audits focused on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance. This service provides guidance and expertise to ensure that internal audits are thorough, objective, and aligned with industry best practices and regulatory standards. By supporting internal audit processes, organizations can identify gaps in their HSE programs, implement corrective actions, and continually improve safety and environmental performance. This support is vital for businesses aiming to foster a proactive HSE culture and maintain compliance with applicable regulations.

Recent Projects

  • Environmental Audit – Pipe Manufacturing facilities in AL and FL

Latitudes performed an environmental audit in support of an acquisition by our client, an international pipe manufacturing company. The company was in the process of purchasing two pipe mills, one located in Mobile, Alabama, and the other located in Panama City, Florida. Our work consisted of a data room (file) review and an environmental compliance review. We also participated in expert meetings with the due diligence team, which included Attornies, Accountants and other professionals. A final report was prepared to summarize our approach, and deficiencies and concerns related to environmental compliance or site conditions. Afterward, we developed a Scope of Work to perform ASTM Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (by third-party consultant) at both facilities; we managed the consultant through completion of this work.
